Ice Bath & Chiller
Frequently asked question
What size portable cold tub should I choose?
- Standard Tub (135x76x62 cm): For home use and individuals with height of up to 180cm tall, the standard tub is the optimal choice, as it occupies the least footprint in the house and minimizes cooling time. Larger tub sizes necessitate a longer cooling period, however they are well-suited for specific scenarios.
- Extra Wide Tub (160x85x67 cm): Ideal for large bodybuilders with broad shoulders and suitable for commercial settings.
- Extra Large Tub (196x76x62 cm): Perfect for accommodating two individuals for a shared plunge or for someone taller than 190cm. Also suitable for commercial settings.
Note that the typical sitting position in a cold plunge involves having your knees slightly bent, unlike the fully extended position used when sitting in a regular bathtub.
Can I place my chiller and the cold plunge indoor or outdoor?
Certainly, you can position them either indoors or outdoors. However, the must be placed under a shade. If that is not feasible, ask TECKWAVE to make you a wooden box to place the chiller inside to protect it from direct sunlight or rain. In warm climates, it is crucial to ensure sufficient airflow around the chiller to prevent it from overheating.
How are the chiller power (710w or 1hp...) and its cooling capacity related?
The chiller's power rating indicates the electricity it consumes from the grid. Generally, within the same brand and design, a higher power rating often correlates with increased cooling capacity. However, the actual cooling capacity is influenced by various factors within the cooling circuit, including the efficiency of the condenser, the heat exchanger, and the overall design. Consequently, comparing the cooling capacities of two chillers solely based on their power ratings may be misleading, as their efficiencies can vary significantly.
How difficult is it to set up my TECKWAVE chiller & the portable tub?
The plunge set is plug and play. The entire setup should be completed in no more than 20 minutes. Inflate the tub, connect the provided hoses by hand, fill the tub, and switch on the chiller!
Does the chiller use a lot of electricity?
The TECKWAVE chillers feature a contemporary cooling circuit design and function within the environmentally-friendly green zone. With power consumption comparable to that of a small fridge, running the chiller for just 4 hours daily before your peak usage hours will result in a unnoticeable impact on your electricity bill.
How long does it take for the cold plunge to cool down with chiller?
It depends on the ambient temperature and the volume of water in the tub. For a standard-sized tub with ICE30 chiller and room temperature, anticipate a gradual 5-degree reduction in water temperature per hour. Keep in mind that during the summer, on the first day, it may take a few hours to cool down the water. However, in a well-insulated ice bath, the water will maintain its cold temperature. Consequently, on the following day, the cold plunge will quickly reach your target temperature.
What does the TECKWAVE app do?
TECKWAVE chillers are entirely managed through the TECKWAVE app. You have the capability to power the chiller on/off, adjust the temperature and ozone settings, and establish a time schedule for the chiller to automatically activate or deactivate.
Do TECKWAVE inflatable tubs get punctured easily or loose air over time?
Our tubs are crafted from military-grade PVC and drop-stitch cord, setting them apart from typical inflatable items you may have encountered. Resilient to punctures under use, unless deliberately decide to hammer a nail in and puncture them, they maintain their integrity. In the rare event of a puncture, rest assured, we include a patch kit with each tub. Furthermore, any paddleboard or boat shop can easily handle repairs if needed. Each tub undergoes rigorous testing for air leaks before leaving our factory, ensuring they are as reliable as possible.
Do I have to run my chiller 24/7?
No, With the TECKWAVE app, you can schedule your chiller to activate approximately 3 hours before your intended plunge. It is recommended to allow the system to circulate for this duration on a daily basis, whether or not you plan to use the plunge, to maintain the water in optimal condition.
What if my chiller has a problem?
Our chillers are built to the highest manufacturing standards, utilizing top-quality components. Issues are exceedingly rare. However, should a problem arise due to manufacturing defects, we are fully committed in fixing the issue in a timely manner. Even if you are far from our location and in a different country, there's no need to worry. We will send you the necessary parts along with clear instructional videos. Additionally, we offer video call support to guide you through the replacement process.
Why do prices of chillers vary in the market?
The primary factors driving price variability are the quality of components and after-sales service. Unlike many brands that purchase chillers from third parties, rebrand them, and sell them, we manufacture our own chillers. This allows us to offer top-of-the-range chillers at more affordable prices. While there are certainly cheaper options available in the low to medium price range, it's important to remember that you often get what you pay for.
How do filtration & sanitization work in a TECKWAVE chiller?
- Large Metal Mesh: A robust metal mesh is integrated into the chiller, distinguishing it from older models with smaller mesh filters. This design eliminates the need for frequent and regular cleaning.
- 20-Micron High-Quality Filter Elements: The chiller features high-quality filter elements with a 20-micron rating, effectively separating particles in the water. These filter elements can be easily replaced, ensuring continued optimal performance.
- Ozone Generator: An ozone generator is employed to produce ozone (O3), which is then introduced into the water. Ozone serves as a potent oxidizing agent, capable of breaking down or converting various substances present in water. This includes organic matter, bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants. The ozone achieves this by attacking and disrupting the chemical structure of these substances.
Do I need to add any chemical sanitization to the tub?
The effectiveness depends on several parameters. For occasional use, when you shower before entering the tub, the mechanical filtration and ozone generator prove sufficient. However, if your intention is to replace the water less frequently and extend its use or your chiller does not have an ozone generator, there are various options available, including Bromine or Hydrogen Peroxide.
Do not use Chlorine in the ice bath. Chlorine can cause corrosion in the system over time
Can I replace my ozone generator with a UV light?
In theory, UV lights have the potential to aid in bacteria eradication; however, in practice, their efficacy is highly contingent on the quality of the lamp. Commercially, UV lights undergo rigorous testing to guarantee their effectiveness, a level of scrutiny not feasible for non-commercial applications.
How often do I need to change the water in my cold plunge?
If you take shower before plunging, you can expect your water to remain clean anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months depending on whether you use any chemical sanitizers or not.
How should I clean my tub?
It is advisable to use a soft sponge to wipe the inside of the tub on a weekly basis. This helps dislodge any buildup on the walls, allowing the filter to capture it effectively. When it's time to replace the water, ensure to completely empty the tub and clean its interior with soap and water. Allow it to dry thoroughly before refilling.
Frequency and dosing quantity for Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide (HP) is one of the most dependable sanitizers for a cold plunge. As a general guideline, adding 25 ml of 30% HP to your standard size tub weekly is recommended. Additionally, test kits are available to precisely measure the HP concentration in the water for accurate application frequency. The HP concentration should be around 30 to 100 ppm for effective sanitization.
Frequency and dosing quantity for Bromine
Bromine presents itself as another viable option. It boasts greater potency than Hydrogen Peroxide and has a longer half-life. Nonetheless, it is recommended to monitor water acidity. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding concentration and frequency. However, as a general guideline, one Bromine tablet should remain effective in the standard size tub for 3 to 4 weeks.
How long is the warranty, and will I receive technical support after it ends?
All our products come with a one-year manufacturer warranty. However, regardless of the warranty period, all our customers in the UAE and GCC enjoy full technical support. Unlike some other brands, we are fully integrated with our manufacturing process and have trained technicians as well as all necessary spare parts readily available locally in the UAE.
